Data in your keynote – how to do it

For keynote presentations it is usually wise to avoid using data. But for some topics, for some audiences, formulas, code, research results, statistics and other cerebral data cannot be avoided.

How do you include these data? Three short tips:

  1. First show, then tell. First the example, then the general rule. Go from concrete to abstract.
  2. Support your information with visuals. Keep the visuals as simple and telling as possible so your audience knows where to look: guide the gaze.
  3. Focus. Like always ask yourself: “does this information support my point?” Remove everything that is not necessary.
